Reenacting Drum Playing

I mentioned on Friday that we went to the EMP in Seattle with our friend Michelle--author of the book of, and curator of the exhibit of, Jim Marshall's photos of the Rolling Stone's 1972 tour. The highlight of this visit, for Mabel (other than seeing her pal Michelle, of course) was playing a Real Live Drum Kit. She sat on my lap and wailed away with the sticks on all the drums and cymbals. It was pretty amazing. For this polaroid outside the awesomely nuts-o Frank Gehry building that houses the music museum, she did us the courtesy of graciously reenacting her drumming performance. It made me think of one of Tina Fey's A Mother's Prayers for Her Daughter: "May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers." Amen.
