Woolgathering

Woolgathering by Patti Smith. A small luminous volume. Primarily a reading book, this is Smith's memoir of her childhood, young womanhood, of learning to think and dream like an artist. The text is much more lyrical and surreal, much closer to poetry, than her recent narrative book Just Kids. Illustrated with photos sprinkled here and there throughout--some Smith's own, and some vintage shots like the one of her as a girl immediately below. A strange book, but quite wonderful.
