Chip Kidd Book One

Today's art book is a bit of an oldie but a goodie: Chip Kidd Book One: Work 1986 - 2006, a massive collection of all the rock star graphic designer's book covers. It's a big old horizontal book, but since he mostly designs covers for fiction and nonfiction reading books, which are oriented vertically, he can get four covers (or more) per spread--the effect of which is a feeling that one is absolutely submerged, not only inside what amounts to a history of practically every major book of the period in question, but also a working timeline of the design tropes, trends, quirks, and predilections of an era. Highly recommended.
