Went and checked out the Picasso show at the De Young the other day. Many arresting and wonderful images there, of course, but to my eye the show was dominated by three pictures. Three portraits of three women who were, most surprisingly, pretty. One may think of Picasso's work as many things, but pretty--especially when it comes to his human figures--is not usually one of them. Each of these images is from a different time, and hangs in a different room, and each totally dominates the room she is in, proclaiming loudly her own attractiveness and interestingness. Shallow as it may sound--these are ladies you want to meet and know.
